Visited their JEM branch last 2 days. Was told that you have to open a Savings Acct of 1K or 2K with them for FD. And the FD 1.45% rate is applicable for 200K or their priority customers only. Below 200K is 1.40% not forgetting have to open a Savings Acct with another sum of money of 1k or 2K which the staff said it is very common with banks these days. I left but am very pleased with Westgate BOC's FD interest rate of 1.50% (wef 12 April) without having to come out any additional sum to open any Savings Acct (which a customer may not need) as well as their staff's pleasant, courteous & professional service!

Hi, thank you for sharing your experience with Standard Chartered Bank. There have been many complaints about the attitude of their staff and their fixed deposit promotions in this thread.

There is definitely no mention of opening of any savings account in their promotional materials and it is also not common practice to open another savings account if you needed to place funds a fixed deposit account. The only other bank that does that is Maybank but they reward consumers with a higher interest rate for fixed deposits and they are upfront with it in their promotional materials.

A minimum deposit of $25,000 is required to earn interest of 1.25% p.a. This offer is only valid for Standard Chartered Priority customers. Other customers will still earn interest of 1.20% p.a. with a minimum deposit of $25,000.

You could try the Woodlands Causeway Point branch. For a full list of branches, please refer to https://www.sc.com/sg/atm-branch-locator/
